‘Body of Water’ draws on Skye's sustainability research focused on professional creatives living in coastal communities. It sheds light on the vital role of active arts centers’ in rural areas as they act as hubs to connect communities and provide platforms for meaningful discussions. Undertaking this rural arts initiative she created Skye Gallery.
The showcased paintings were created during a thematic artist residency on Toronto Island, delving into the multifaceted nature of water. From concepts of fluidity and transformation to scarcity and conservation, the collection delves deep into the evocative inspiration and awe that water evokes.
However, this showcase serves a greater purpose: to foster dialogue and draw attention to the importance of balanced and sustainable shared shoreline usage. By emphasizing the coexistence of industrial and recreational activities along the shoreline, the exhibition aims to promote understanding and responsible stewardship of this precious resource.
